Commemorating 17th century terrorism, one straw efigy at a time.

Nothing keeps me away from my blog, my e-mail and Facebook like a nasty cold. I got sick Sunday night (after giving out candy), and spent Monday through Wednesday sleeping, staggering into the kitchen in warm p-js and a robe to make tea, or crouching in my chair (those few good hours) watching Syfy.
The most serious repercussion is NaNoWriMo. I got a late start. I managed to write some on 11/1, but I was too sick to concentrate. Possibly creative energy and healing energy come from the same place. Or maybe it was the cold meds, but anyway, slow start and now I’m behind. I do have 4800 words. I will need to write at least 1767 words per day to get current. The plan is to put in a couple of weekends where I write 3,000 words per day, thus getting ahead of the curve. It’s grueling, like the Tour de France only without the bicycles and competition and stuff.

A quick update on Halloween. We had about 175 marauders—I mean trick-or-treaters. Most common costumes:
- Pirates (either gender) 2rd year in a row
- Scream Guy
- Princesses
- Angels/fairies
- Vampires
- Vampire fairies
The most original costume was the girl who came as a TV (her head in the box). She had painted it herself and had a little patter that went with it.
The little tiny kids were cats, tigers, cows or bees. There’s some deep-seated mythological meaning there, that I will uncover someday.
We also had Lucy and Ethyl in their assembly-line-chocolate-factory attire, which I thought was clever, and a little surprising. I guess that must be on YouTube someplace, but why would two 12-year-olds know about it?

Syfy came through for me when I was sick! One day they had a Doctor Who marathon (the David Tennant series) and one other day they had a marathon of a show called Haunted, which was on CBS for a couple of weeks, once, I guess, before Lost. I say before Lost because Matthew Fox was the star. This thing got cancelled before I ever saw it, and I do understand why. It is perfect for Syfy, however. It had a couple of things going for it; a good cast, and the ability to make parts of some Canadian city almost look like LA.
